On April 25, the mid-term defense of the full English graduation design (thesis) of the 2020 Roads and Bridges and Crossing River Engineering (Bilingual Programme) and Traffic Engineering (Bilingual Programme) of the School of Highway Engineering was proceed as scheduled. Under the situation of epidemic prevention and control, the Innovative Education Center of the Highway College optimized the mid-term online defense plan. The defense was divided into ten groups in five directions: roads, bridges, rock tunnels, traffic, and management. A total of 133 students and 44 instructors participated in this mid-term online defense on the Tencent conference platform.
This mid-term defense implements a cross-response and instructor avoidance system, including student report video (10 minutes), questions in English (5 minutes), and guidance in Chinese(10 minutes). In the end, the defense team will comprehensively evaluate the results based on the completion progress and quality of the graduation design (thesis), the drawing of the engineering drawings, the level of translation work, and the defense. According to the score evaluation method developed by the Working Committee for the Defense, the defense uses green (passing, 80%) and red (warning, 20%) colors to mark the student's performance, in order to supervise the follow-up work progress and quality.
Full English graduation Design (Thesis) is an important module in the talent training model of the Bilingual Programme of the Highway College. This year for the first time to try online defense, with the powerful support and well-preparation of the supervisors and students, the entire defense was processed orderly, and achieved good results as expected.
