Undergraduate Program for Road, Bridge and River Crossing Engineering |
Ⅰ. General Description
The Road, Bridge and Crossing River Engineering (公路桥梁与渡河工程) is hosted by the School of Highway at Chang’an University, which was founded in 2000 by merging three universities established in 1950s, including Xi’an Highway University, Xi’an Engineering Institute and Northwest Institute of Construction Engineering.
There are three tracks in the Road, Bridge and River Crossing Engineering, including Roadway Engineering, Bridge Engineering, and Geotechnical and Tunnel Engineering. Students have to determine one of the three tracks at the beginning of junior year.
Ⅱ. Program Educational Objectives
The educational objectives of B.S. Road, Bridge and River Crossing Engineering program are:
• To be able to conduct qualified design and construction jobs in Road, Bridge and River Crossing Engineering;
• To become experts and leaders in both technology and management in Road, Bridge and River Crossing Engineering, with the awareness of globalization;
• To stay technically current and keep a lifelong learning, toward the technology innovation, the sustainable development and outstanding achievements in industry and academia in Road, Bridge and River Crossing Engineering.
Ⅲ. Student Outcomes
1. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics;
2. An ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors;
3. An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences;
4. An ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts;
5. An ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives;
6. An ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions;
7. An ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
