On the morning of August 23, 2019, Professor Peter Chang of the University of Maryland in the United States and Professor Sun Lu of Princeton University in the United States were invited to the School of Highway to conduct academic reports and exchange discussions. Professor Peter Chang's report titled "Bridge Monitoring and Inspection." He explained the damage mechanism of the bridge structure in detail, and systematically introduced the latest research progress and application status of the sensor technology, and put forward the prospect of bridge monitoring and monitoring technology. Subsequently, Professor Sun Lu gave an academic report entitled "Structural Health Operation Monitoring and Intelligent Inspection System of Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge." He Highlighted the BIM-based health monitoring system (BIM-SHM) used in the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge. Also, He explained the contents of automatic monitoring, traffic load monitoring, manual inspection and maintenance management, comprehensive early warning and safety assessment. In the interactive session, the two professors carefully answered the questions of teachers and students in detail and put forward thought-provoking innovative ideas.

Professor Peter Chang graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1982 with a doctorate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His main research interest is the application of sensing technology in structural health monitoring, structural fire prevention, and explosion. He once served as the Director of the Sensor and Sensor Network Division of the National Science Foundation.
Professor Sun Lu graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001 with a doctorate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. His main research interests are modified asphalt, ballastless track design and inspection of high-speed railways, bridge structure health monitoring and inspection, infrastructure asset management, intelligent transportation operations and safety, connected vehicles, and unmanned driving. He is a Distinguished Professor of Changjiang Scholars of the Ministry of Education.
