In order to communicate the latest progress and results of China’s highway engineering mechanics problems and numerical simulation methods, accelerate the integration of numerical simulation methods and traditional testing technologies, improve the level of new material research and development, and innovate material ratio design theory, the "Academic Building" series of activities on the 70th anniversary of the founding of Chang'an University-the third "National Symposium on Pavement Material Mechanics and Numerical Simulation" was held on December 11-13, 2020.
The seminar was held at the Academic Exchange Center of Chang'an University at 8:30 on December 12. Professor Sha Aimin, President of Chang'an University, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. President Sha pointed out that the world is undergoing major changes unseen in a century, and the field of highway transportation is facing new challenges and new opportunities; the National Pavement Material Mechanics and Numerical Simulation Symposium is of great significance to the innovative development of highway engineering in the future. Focusing on the revolutionary and disruptive technological innovations in the transportation field and the demand for top-notch talent training, Chang'an University actively responded to the new situation and adopted new measures. President Sha introduced the new outlook of our school's development to the experts. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Wang Hainian, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Highway College.
Professor Tan Yiqiu, Dean of the School of Transportation, Harbin Institute of Technology, and Dr. Wang Xudong, the chief researcher of the Institute of Highway Science of the Ministry of Transport, were invited to give keynote speeches, chaired by Professor Ma Xing, Director of the Office of High-Level Talents.
Professor Xu Shifa of the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, Beijing Jianzhu University and Professor T. F. FWA, Dean of the Future School of Transportation of Chang'an University, were invited to give keynote speeches, chaired by Professor Pei Jianzhong, Director of the Development Planning Office.
On December 13th, from 11:40 to 12:00, the closing ceremony of the seminar was held in the Lily Hall of Holiday Inn Dayan Pagoda. It was hosted by Professor Liu Yu from the Highway School of Chang'an University. Associate Professor Li Zhi from South China University of Technology represented the organizer of the first seminar. Speech, Zhu Hongzhou, deputy dean of the School of Civil Engineering of Chongqing Jiaotong University, made a speech on behalf of the organizer of the next seminar. So far, this seminar was successfully held and won unanimous praise from experts and scholars participating in the seminar.
This conference is a large-scale academic seminar organized by Chang'an University and organized by the Highway College. It has received the attention and support of the School’s Science and Technology Office, Development Planning Office, High-level Talent Office, Academic Journal Management Center, Social Cooperation Office, Security Office, and Graduate School. More than 250 experts and scholars from 45 universities at home and abroad and more than 10 enterprises and institutions participated in this seminar, and a total of 58 high-level academic reports were held.
