On the afternoon of June 18th, the final competition and award ceremony of 2021 World College Bridge Design Competition was held in our school. This competition is sponsored by China Highway Society and China Highway Planning and Design Institute Co., LTD. Weng Mengyong, being Standing Committee of the National People's Congress for three times as well as president of China Highway Society, Liu Wenjie, vice President of INTERNATIONAL Road Federation, vice President and secretary general of China Highway Association, Chen Zhijian, party secretary of Chang ’an university, Sha Aimin, the president of Chang’ an University and other leaders attended the event. This contest was judged by Meng Fanchao, the chief designer of hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, national engineering survey and design master and deputy chief engineer of China Communications Construction Group, Song Hui, the general manager of Zhongjiao Highway Planning and Design Institute, Zhao Xiangmo, the vice president of Chang ’an University, Hu Zhaofang, the chief engineer of Transportation Department of Jiangxi Province, Wang Fumin, the chairman of China Merchants and Chongqing Transportation Research and Design Institute Co., LTD, Feng Pengcheng, the general manager of CCCC Second Highway Survey and Design Institute Co., LTD, Han Bing, professor of Beijing Jiaotong University.
Zhao Xiangmo delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the university. He pointed out that the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) put forward the major strategic deployment of building a powerful country in science and technology and transportation, which pointed out the direction for us to accelerate scientific and technological innovation. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period, breakthroughs were made in major projects such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and The Beijing Daxing International Airport. These key and core technologies cannot be bought or be given in charity. We need the concerted efforts of the young people with ambition and experts and scholars at present to provide stronger intellectual and technological support for the economic development and the improvement of people's lives. China Highway Society held the final of the World Bridge Design Competition in Chang 'an University, which not only shows its trust in the school, but also provides teachers and students with a precious learning opportunity. I hope every contestant can play stably, calmly and achieve excellent results!
Mei Jun, deputy secretary general of China Highway Society, said in his speech that facing the future, what kind of college student bridge design talents should be cultivated and what kind of bridge human beings need is the topic of the time we are facing. Hoping that this contest could be a benchmark for college students in bridge designing, improve college students' awareness of bridge design, increase the bridge design’s humanistic thoughts and green ideas and contribute to achieving sustainable development at an early date. He encouraged college students here every time travel have a poetic distance, every climbing have a great dream, we hope that we can contribute to the development of Bridges in the world. He encouraged the students present to have a poetic future every time they travel and a great dream every time they climb. He hoped that we could make contributions to the development of bridges in the world together.
The competition officially began, ten teams in accordance with the order of drawing lots participated in work display and expert defense. Our student's work "Ah Yi" bridge was the first to present. This work was guided by Professor Liu Lingjia of highway College, and the team was composed of undergraduates of Highway College. After the defense of the 10 teams, Meng Fanchao, chief designer of HZMB, national engineering survey and design master, and deputy chief engineer of China Communications Construction Group, made on-site comments.
Finally, our school won the "Excellent Organization Award". Liu Lingjia, professor of Highway College, won "Excellent Instructor Award". Our student team won the second prize.
Since the competition started in October 2020, our school has made careful preparations, widely publicized, actively mobilized and carefully organized. A total of 52 teams have signed up for the competition, 23 teams have entered the preliminary evaluation, and 18 excellent teams have advanced to the final and been recommended to the organizing committee. After the evaluation of the competition and the on-site finals, our school finally won 1 second prize, 3 third prizes, 2 excellence awards, 2 finalists, and achieved excellent results.
More than 300 teachers and students from Chang 'an Dublin International Transportation College, College of Highway, College of Construction engineering, School of Architecture and other related majors attended the competition.
